Trend Crush: Illusion Mesh ELLE Trend Crush: Illusion MeshJune 26 5:11 PMby ELLE 0 Comments They say you're at your truest when there's no premeditation, when you're asked a question, for example, and your response isn't what you think will sound wittiest or most enlightening but rather whatever happens to be at the tip of your tongue. Two evenings ago, as I made my way into the I ♥ Gen Art benefit, a woman with a camera crew and oversized microphone mistakenly took me for someone I wasn't–more specifically, someone of a caliber I wasn't–and immediately flooded me with questions about fashion this and personal style that, all of which I fielded politely but very nervously. After a few minutes and a few gentle reminders to "please look at the camera while speaking," the interviewer asked me the kind of question every person who works in this industry loves to answer: What trend are you most excited about this season? Now, besides the mind-game that is figuring out which season we're actually talking about (Spring/Summer? Resort? Pre-Fall??), there is the added challenge of making sure what you're about to say is in fact a veritable trend and not just something you saw once or twice at your one or two favorite designers' coach outlet factory online shows. With all of that running through my head, not to mention at that very moment being distracted by a very sweaty and be-denimed Alex and Simon Van Kempen (my favorite Real coach outlet Housewife and Househusband!), I was about to cop-out and offer up the same old "structured asymmetry" when it hit me like a ton of Ice Capades – illusion mesh!   (From left: Oscar de la Renta RST10, Preen RST10, Alex Wang FW09, ThreeASFOUR FW09) In both SS09 and RST10 collections, from designers as femme and sophisticated as Stella McCartney and as edgy as Preen, on celebrities from the classic Kate Winslet to all three Gossip Girls, it is impossible to escape the `90s flashback trend of illusion mesh. (From left: Blake in Roberto Cavalli, Megan in Herve Leroux, Amber in Alex Wang, Leighton in Emilio de la Morena) Some may view encasing parts of one's coach outlet body in netting as a trashy travesty, some may say it is a fabric best left to the backside of cheap baseball caps, but I anoint the creative use of mesh, even in bodysuit form, my favorite sartorial trend for this and next season.
